Creation2012We start the new semester tonight at porch. We’ll entering into a new series called “here comes Jesus” – we’re actually going to be in this series for the rest of the school year! Why would we do that? Because starting at the very beginning of the Bible. We want you to see that the whole Bible leads up to the coming of Jesus Christ. Everything in the Bible points to Him. So we’re starting with Genesis chapter 1 – tonight we’ll be looking at how God created the world. If your there…your going to see and learn some stuff you’ve never seen or learned before. The creation account in the Bible is worth stopping and spending some time on…its absolutely amazing what God did…and He did it out of nothing. It’s going to be a great night and a great semester. See you at porch.

Porch Christmas Party

When: This Tuesday, December 13

4 main things you should know:

  1. We begin at 6:30pm instead of 7pm! We end at 8:30pm as usual.
  2. Every student is to bring a wrapped white elephant gift. Find something in your house that you could wrap and bring. One rule though: it needs to be something that somebody would want. We don’t want a bunch of trash…that would kind of ruin the excitement of what were doing.
  3. Corny Christmas Sweater Contest…Obviously. Everybody needs to have on the corniest Christmas sweater you can possibly get your hands on. The best sweater gets honored and also an el campesino gift card.
  4. Every student is to bring something for the feast.

By last name:

A-G: Some kind of dessert or sweet

H-M: Some kind of appetizer

N-Z: Drink

SERVE

Tha Porch is beginning to serve at the South Street Ministries House every Tuesday throughout the summer working with their kids’ summer programs. The morning involves gardening and the afternoon program, snack time, crafts, games, etc. The main goal is to spend time with and love on these inner city kids. We’ll go down in two groups: Group One will meet at the Hudson Campus at 9:15 am and work from 10 am to 12 pm arriving back to the Hudson Campus around 1 pm. Group Two will meet at the Hudson campus at 1:45 and serve from 2:30 to 5 pm arriving back to the Hudson Campus around 5:30 pm. Please bring a few dollars, as we plan to support The Front Porch Cafe, South Street’s new ministry to give job experience to persons who have been to jail, by eating there afterward. (We will try to be as schedule conscious as possible for those who need to return by certain times.) The ministry desperately needs consistent volunteers who can build relationships with the kids, so any students who can commit to serving most Tuesdays for the rest of the summer would be a huge blessing. If you’re interested but this time or commitment doesn’t work for you, keep an eye out for more information on here and Facebook for additional dates and projects that may develop. If you’d like to share Christ’s love with some really cool kids this summer, please contact Dani Kokochak at (318) 286-0603 or Colleen O’Neil at (216) 956-3924 or via either Facebook accounts before showing up at the church. For more information on South Street Ministries, visit www.southstreetministries.org

Spring cleaning? Additionally, there will be donation bins beginning Tuesday, July 12 in the back of Tha Block during all Porch functions. We will donate all CLOTHING, TOYS, SHOES, etc. new or old (in good condition) to the Haven of Rest in Akron. Old BIKES or ART/SCHOOL SUPPLIES will also be taken to the South Street Ministries for their bike shop program which allows kids to earn themselves this means of transportation and independence, and summer programs for arts and crafts. (Please contact Colleen O’Neil at (216) 956-3924 if you plan to donate a bike). We invite you to challenge yourself though to love your neighbor as yourself. While we want to make use of the things that will either wind up in the trash or sit on a shelf, our neighbors deserve brand new, too. So don’t be shy to go out and buy something you would’ve enjoyed to donate!

SUMMER SWEETNESS!

Sheez Louise! It’s Summer already! Well summer is a bit of a break for tha Porch’s regular Tuesday night meeting, but we still do some stuff on select random Tuesdays.

We have a pretty crazy summer of mission trips, and other things that aren’t the typical Tuesday stuff. We do, however, still have some official stuff on tuesdays. Click the “summer” button at the top of this page or the icon to the right to get full slate of what Porch is up to this summer.

Stay cool!
