Porch Slam
Hey Everyone!
We gather Tuesday night (June 30th) at 7pm for the first summer 09 porch slam. Its a time of worship and group prayer…sounds pretty intense! It is. Come check it out. We’ll be done at 8:30pm and don’t forget…we always meet at the block now!
Pray for us while we’re gone…
We’ve got people from tha porch who are going to the ends of the earth this week…and they need your prayers. A team of 40 porch students and adult leaders are heading down to South America…Ecuador to be exact. They’ll be hard at work running a VBS for more then 300 kids…they’ll also be building and painting so that kids in the future can have classrooms where they can learn about God. There is also a group of porch students going down to the Dominican Republic to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. All and all - we would appreciate your prayers as we step out of our comfort zone and trust God to take care of us and grow us into the people He wants us to become.
Porch Ends Year with 2009 Talent Show
What a great time last night! It was hot in there but mostly because of all the talent on the stage! Congratulations goes to Greg Hojnacki, playing a song from his album, Passing Hampton, and winning the 2009 Talent Show. Second place winners, the Junior Girls Small Group, vaulted to the top with their rendition of the Hannah Montana line dance (with a little help from Kristian Kasiguran). Third place went to Adam Carothers and Andy Perkins with their sick diablo skills. We had everything from country western bands to chickens to stand up comedy on our block stage last night!

Loud Talkers
Have you ever overheard someone who is talking really loud? Weeks ago I was on a plane and a guy 3 rows up was a guy who was talking non-stop and really loud. Me…along with the rest of the plane could hear every word he said. It got to a point where nobody else was talking…everybody was just listening to this one guy talk. He was totally oblivious to his own loudness…he no idea that everyone on the plane could hear his every word. People began to roll their eyes and laugh at him - I kind of joined in too. Have you ever felt embarrassed for someone else? Someone you don’t even know? That’s how I felt for this guy. I also found myself getting really annoyed. I found myself despising this guy….he was getting on my nerves along with everyone else.
It got me thinking though…I know God hears everything I say and I know He knows all my thoughts…in fact - he sees everything I do! So why aren’t I more embarrassed of myself before God? Why isn’t that fact that God is watching me and hearing me the first thing I think of when I do or say something terrible? I guess I’m just like that guy on the plane…so focused on me that I become oblivious that my friend and Savior and God is right there listening and watching…He’s with me always. I need to always remember that. I’m just so glad God doesn’t view me like I viewed the loud guy…He loves me and gives me grace despite all my embarrassing moments.
