Tuesdays
Yes, tha porch meets every Tuesday night (September – May). We begin at 7pm and end at 8:30pm. Tha porch always meets at tha block.
What do we do at porch? Great Question! Truth is it is often changing. We like to keep things fresh and we don’t like it when students can guess what’s happening next week in and week out. However, the core of what we do is obvious on any given Tuesday Night. We love to sing as a group…I know that sounds weird, but our student led band is better then good…they’re awesome. They lead us in a time of worship that many students say is the main reason they love to come. We also have a teaching time…its usually me, John Coleman who leads that part…I love speaking to HS students about things I am passionate about…my number one passion is the Word of God…when I speak at tha porch those two loves in my life come together and sometimes it can be a really good thing that students would say they get alot out of. Often there is a video of the week…usually created and edited by our student team… these videos can get strange and random, but very entertaining. At tha porch you will also quickly notice that students really do run the show. They are the ones up front…doing pretty much everything…that is one of the things that makes tha porch so good…its owned and led by students themselves.
If your thinking about coming on Tuesday night, but scared that you won’t feel comfortable or know everybody right away…you may be right. But you should come…and then come agian…and then come again. The more you come the better chance you have of meeting people and then feeling more comfortable. Tha porch is like a big family. I love it when we get to spring time and everyone knows each other because thats what we want to be…a family – not just a bunch of strangers who get together once a week to be awkward. My advice to you would be this: come with an open attitude. Initiate conversations with people and do your best to meet people any chance you get…don’t always expect others to approach you…you initiate conversations with them! As time goes on – you will get to know people and feel at home at tha porch. Once you have that…its a priceless thing because its so good to have a family of people who love you.
